Shadowdark: Bloggah's Blog #16: The Sloggening, Part the Third.

Damnit, I hoped it would be warmer here!

Cold snap, dude. And put down the dog's chew toy

squeak-squeak. squeak squeak.

I can't have it? I was going to use it to distract Columbo.

No, and you got smudges all over the tablet. What is in those rations of yours?

Well, the smoke clears. Or the snow, at least. Dremont and I catch our breath.

Ivanoff comes out of his shop. Something's not right. If I squint, he looks a bit... reptilian.

Everything shifts a little, and a bronze dragon is looking down at us. No one else seems to notice.

And now we're getting scolded by said dragon for messing up the balance in the Forest, and it shows us the results of our actions if we don't set things right. Chaos overruns the hamlet, including the army of undead. I squint and think I might see Elinar among the throng.

Focus, Bloggah.

OK, when we went to the elven shrine and boogered around with the magic sundial thing, we shifted things a day, and that got the Forest all bent out of shape. OK. We'll go fix it.

The dragon becomes Ivanoff again and everything goes back to normal. Well, normal for the Komor...

It's snowing. We buy snowshoes, since Dremont is tired of breaking trail for me.

I invite Milos, the apprentice, along, since its good to have another hand. Off we go. We trudge west, aiming for Turghal's cabin, where Dremont and Columbo were most helpful. Turghal's moved on, with the silver Dremont gave him, but the cabin's still there. On the way, we hear someone else struggling in the snow. Thin guy with a big satchel. We call out and help. Says his name's Luguria, and he's got wares to peddle, as well as information and rumors. Seems harmless enough...

We invite him to the cabin, and he lays out a few scrolls. I look closely at them, but they seem to be a bit... off? I decline to trade any of my coin or magic. Dremont asks about the artifact hammer he's seeking, and the fellow confirms its location. We trade a bit for this information, and Luguria senses that our dealing is done. He packs up to head back out. Oh, here's a coin. Use it to call me if you need anything. It smells of sulfur...

Night passes. No bears arrive.

On through the snow to the abandoned Northman shrine. Some poor lout expired just outside the door. Well, he's not using that pack anymore. We push into the shrine for the night. Milos does not sleep well.

On through the snow. Spring can't come too soon. We figure we are a long day out from the old elven shrine. The snow's not stopping, so we gotta push through. Speaking of which, there's more commotion ahead. Some pathetic imp thing struggling in the snow. It sounds bad and smells worse. We guess its a manes demon, fleeing some master and got itself in too deep... Sigh, it can follow us. Milos asks if we want him to missile it. Into the night, we break trail, whiny demon in tow. We finally get to the shrine, exhausted. The demon beg for some food, and we toss it a ration.

In one end and out the other. What an awful little creature.

Dremont calls the spirit. It appears, and we explain our need to make things right. The spirit tells Dremont that he is able to manifest the shrine on his own accord. Turns out it was with him all along...

Dremont does some dwarf mumbo jumbo, and sure enough, shrine. The demon shies away and goes off to whine somewhere. Good. Milos enters. Dremont and I head upstairs, not touching anything. In the observatory, we find the odd sundial with its three gnomon. Time to put the candle back, again.... Carefully, we rearrange the candles to re-set the time one day. Whew.

Downstairs, Milos is feeling a bit nauseous. Time shifts do that to a guy. Outside, the snow is decreased, so we are safely in yesterday. Or today. I don't know anymore. At least the demon has disappeared.

As we stand there, several wispy lights appear, and attack Milos. We try to attack or dispel them away, but to no avail. Milos, screaming, is shredded and dissipates as wisps of smoky fabric. Oh, loose ends I guess. And I just got my first apprentice, too!

So they have brought balance to the Forest. Or something like that. Back in Scorn, Columbo meets Ken's new PC, a halfling thief by the name of Hobbs. They work out some deals.
